Intervention in El Eco Museum

The addition to the Eco Experimental Museum is a sculptural intervention that visitors can walk through and that connects the museum’s courtyard with that of its annex, built in 2007, producing a new spatial and functional experience in the museum. With this temporary connection, the annex, which had been underused, is incorporated into the complex and presented to the public as a real and effective extension of the El Eco Experimental Museum. The dynamic composition of the gold-painted stairway makes reference to the sculpture by Mathias Goeritz, La serpiente, which in the original project formed a key part of the museum’s courtyard. With the sculptural intervention, the amount of open and closed space for public use is expanded, rendering unnecessary the construction of a courtyard pavilion that was stipulated in the competition rules.
