Columbus Table

2018/ 2020 - For MANIERA, Brussels, Belgium

Brussels, Belgium

The Columbus Table is a side table produced for the Brussels design gallery MANIERA. The first edition was produced in 2018 in a limited edition, and in 2020 two new colors and sizes were added in an unlimited edition. The design consists of a 6mm thick aluminum plate that is cut, bent twice, and powder coated, forming a colorful ¾ circle side table.  Underneath, three rubber feet have been added to make the object float above the floor surface. PRODUCTORA seeks to design furniture elements that engage with their immediate contexts: the object complements architecture or large pieces of furniture such as beds or sofas by embracing exterior corners.

The project continued the research from 2017, when MANIERA invited PRODUCTORA to produce an installation for Exhibit Columbus 2017, the inaugural architecture and design festival in the small Midwestern town of Columbus, Indiana. PRODUCTORA inserted a series of circular elements along Washington Street, highlighting the town's rich history of modern architecture by Eliel and Eero Saarinen, Venturi, Roche & Dinkeloo, Girard, and many more… Each of the concrete cylinders with a mirror-polished brass or stainless-steel top, interacted in a different way with the surrounding context, highlighting different stories, narratives, and agents involved in the socio-historic composition of the streetscape. See project Columbus Circles.

After a preview in Milan, the first edition was presented at MANIERA in Brussels in May 2018 in a duo-exhibition with the Italian architects Piovenefabi. LA-based architects Mark Lee and Sharon Johnston wrote a text for the show.
