Museum of Mayan Culture and Regional Biodiversity
2025 - Xpujil, Campeche, Mexico
The museum, which seeks to disseminate the cultural heritage of the ancient Maya civilization and the region’s exceptional biodiversity, is conceived as a fluid symbiosis between landscape and architecture, where the museographic experience unfolds both in interior spaces and in the museum’s gardens and outdoor areas. As a starting point, we proposed a “reforestation” of the site to reverse the previous clearing.
Three independent buildings and a semi-covered auditorium are connected by a concrete grid that threads through this restored natural setting, creating a hybrid environment that is part architecture and part landscape. The longest building consists of a continuous section with a pyramidal silhouette, recalling a pre-Hispanic structure—thus serving as a prominent landmark along the highway. Access to the complex is through this main volume, which also houses the principal gallery dedicated to Maya culture.
